As a young girl from a humble background, Jenipher felt the need to inspire and motivate other youths to reach their dreams. The idea of having GESGEM was conceived in 2008 when she was in standard six and was so passionate in making a change to her family and the community.

Jenipher saw most of the young girls where she was staying getting married at a very young age, other had unexpected pregnancies, others engaged in illegal drugs, theft and other illegal matters and she felt the need to bring changes to her community. Jenipher was also bothered with the economic status of where she was and wished to change that.

It was when Jenipher was selected to be a peer educator at her primary school that she saw the light towards what she hoped to change…. she wished to see the young girls go to school, graduate and at least contribute something to their societies, to see young boys stop engaging in illegal issues such as drugs, and all that. she has been having the urge to see others working smart and accomplishing their goals.

Since then Get started get moving (GESGEM) continued as a project where she has been speaking to students around different streets and schools and also at the church. The journey went on where the idea kept growing inside her and she continued educating and mentoring her fellows at ordinary level (2010 to 2013).

Where she was doing that through different student clubs (AIDS/PCCB/malihai/roots and shoots/UN club) and as a leader in her school,  in all these she interacted with other youths from different schools and spread the message she was passionate  with. She went to advance (2013 – 2015), using her holidays going around schools to motivate the students.

When she joined Sokoine University in 2017 she still had the idea in mind and managed to share it with fellow founders Paul Kisena, Matiko Godwin, Zakia Seif, and Rose Nanyaro with whom they formed a team and proceeded with GESGEM activities. The efforts of these members made it possible for the organization to be fully registered in 2022 as an NGO operating in the United Republic of Tanzania.

GESGEM, now registered as GESGEMO (Get Started Get Moving Organization) is dedicated to mentoring, building capacity, supporting, and motivating the youths to be agents of change in their societies. The organization does this through mentorship, workshops, outreaches, capacity building seminars, dialogues, and financial support where possible.
